SpaceX Enters Partnership with ePumps

SpaceX rocket launch

ePumps has recently entered a partnership with SpaceX in which the aerospace manufacturer and space transportation services company will use B3ZPLS 50 horsepower pumps for their launch pads. The partnership represents a monumental moment for ePumps, as it displays the flexibility and range of use for our products.

When we imagine a rocket launch, our minds immediately think to fire and its visually dynamic role in lift off. Frankly, many of us do not consider that the forces and heat produced need to be very controlled in order to ensure proper performance of the rocket. This is where water comes in to fill a pivotal role in launches.

One of the uses for water in space travel is that it helps cool the launch pad at lift off. This function is crucial, as rockets can reach temperatures of ~3,500K (~3,200 ° C or ~5,800°F). The primary function of the water, however, is to suppress the amount of sound energy and vibrations that are created during the launch process. If the sound generated at lift off is not properly shielded by sheets of water, the acoustical energy can reflect back at the rocket. This would have many negative impacts on the performance of the rocket. To protect the rocket and launch pad from damage, approximately 450,000 gallons of water need to be released by the water deluge system. The sheer amount of the water utilized and its pertinence to the performance of the rocket necessitates quality pumps to pressurize the water tubes of the system.

ePumps is the premier source for water pumps and accessories, ranging from B3ZPLS 50 horsepower pumps needed for rocket launch to submersible pumps for wells and ponds. ePumps recognizes that no matter the task, a quality piece of equipment will always be needed to ensure that the job gets done.
